Ingredients for Spinach Broccoli saag

Broccoli                                 01 medium size

Spinach                                  300 grams (2 bunches)

Edible oil/ pure ghee          03 tablespoons

Ginger                                    01 inch (finely chopped)

Garlic                                      5-6 cloves (finely chopped)

Onion                                     01 Big size (chopped)

Tomato                                   02 (cut)

Cornflour                               02 tablespoons

Asafoetida                             a pinch

Cumin                                     1/2 tsp

Salt                                          to taste

Red chili powder                  01 tsp

Turmeric powder                 01 tsp

Garam masala                       1/2 teaspoon

Butter                                     01tbsp (optional)

Spinach Broccoli saag recipe

Preparation 

  • First, clean the spinach thoroughly and wash and set aside.
  • Wash the broccoli and remove the excess portion.
  • Cut the spinach and broccoli into a bowl.
  • Heat the water in the cooker and add chopped spinach and 2-3 clove garlic and boil for 1 whistle.
  • When cooled, put the spinach and garlic in a blender and make a puree, keep it aside.
  • Similarly, put the broccoli in the pressure cooker and boil it and let it soften a bit.
  • Do not boil it too much otherwise, the broccoli will also mix completely in the spinach. Keep it aside.

How to make Spinach Broccoli saag recipe

  • Place a pan on the gas and heat the pure ghee, reduce the heat to medium. When the ghee gets hot, add cumin seeds and heeng and let it splutter.
  • When the cumin seeds start crackling, add garlic and chopped ginger to it and fry for about 1-2 minutes. Add onion and fry until light golden brown.
  • Now add chopped tomatoes and stir well. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and cook for a while. When the tomatoes become soft and mix well with the spices, add boiled broccoli and mix well.
  • Add spinach puree and add 2 tablespoons cornflour and mix well. If your recipe is too thick, then add light water.
  • Mix all the ingredients well and cook for about 20 minutes. Keep it moving in the middle or else it will hit the surface.
  • Your spinach broccoli recipe is ready, pour some butter over it, and serve hot with roti, naan or rice.
