Polpette di ceci (Chickpea balls recipe)
Polpette di ceci ( vegetarian meatball) is one of my favorite dishes in the kitchen, it is an easy recipe and the ingredients are easily available. In this recipe, the chickpeas are boiled till it is tender, it is mashed well, then balls are made by mixing egg and cheese in it. These balls are fried until they turn light brown. Polpette di Ceci (Chickpea balls recipe) is a popular vegetarian Italian dish served with sauce.
Also called a vegetarian meatball recipe, the Italian use it as a starter or as a side dish. By the way, you can eat it alone as a snack.

Ingredients for polpette di ceci
Olive oil 03tbsp
Tomato sauce 300 grams (with basil)
Garlic 07 cloves (finely chopped)
Onion 01 (chopped)
Lemon juice 01 tbsp
Chickpeas 400 grams
Breadcrumbs 1/2 cup
Egg 01 (beaten)
Basil leaves 1/3 cup (finely chopped)
Spring onion leaves (finely chopped) for garnishing
Oregano (dry) 01 tsp
Black pepper 1/2 tsp
Salt according to taste
How to make polpette di ceci (vegetarian meatball)
- To make the Vegetarian chickpea meatballs (polpette di ceci), first, preheat your oven to 220 degrees.
- In a large bowl, take the boiled chickpeas.
- Crush the garlic cloves in this bowl, now add 1/3 cup Basil leaves (finely chopped) in the bowl and mix well.
- Now add Egg-01 (beaten), 1/2 cup breadcrumbs, oregano, grated zest lemon juice, salt as per taste, black pepper, and mix well.
- After mixing all the mixture well, make a round ball and keep it aside.
- Lightly apply olive oil on the balls using a brush. Now store it on a baking tray and cook for about 15 minutes.
- After cooking for 15 minutes, turn it over.
- Meanwhile, put a pan on the gas, add a little olive oil, and heat it.
- Now add chopped fine onion and crushed garlic and 2-3 cloves and fry.
- Add chopped basil, green onion, and tomato sauce (300 grams) and cook for about 8-10 minutes.
Serving idea chickpea meatball
- Your vegetarian meatball is ready, place the two-three balls in a small bowl, put tomato sauce on top of the ball, add some basil leaves, spring onion leaves, and serve vegetarian meatballs as a side dish.
- Alternatively, serve it with the main meal or with spaghetti.
