Jeera Rice recipe (Jeera pulao)
Jeera Rice Recipe (Jeera pulao) is actually fragrant rice made by tempering it with cumin seeds. Although it is a very easy recipe it has its own unique way of making it. It is mildly spicy and cumin seeds enhance its taste. Cumin rice is the most liked dish of Indian restaurants. Indians eat it with dal tadka, naan, or other vegetables. You can make this popular dish on special occasions or on weekends. We have made it in our recipe by tempering it with basmati rice along with cumin seeds and aromatic spices.
There are two ways to make Jeera Rice Recipe. The first method is restaurant style and the second method is made of jeera rice in the pulao method. We have shared both types of recipes with you. Both the methods are very easy.
- In this Jeera Rice Recipe, fragrant rice is fried after adding mild spices and cumin seeds. In this, the already prepared rice is tempered by adding a little oil, cumin, and green chilies, then pre-cooked rice is added and mixed well. Some people also add saffron and green coriander.
- In the second method, Jeera pulao is made in a vessel or pressure cooker. This method of making cumin rice also has its own popularity, in which cumin seeds and whole spices are added after heating oil in a pan. The masala is roasted and when the aroma starts coming, rice is added, then it is cooked with spices. This method is just like pulao and easy. Therefore this method can also be called cumin pulao. You can make it by keeping it in a pot or in a cooker.

Ingredients for jeera rice
Basmati rice 150 grams
bay leaf 01
Green cardamom 2-3
Cloves 2-3
Big Cardamom 01
Cinnamon 1/2 inch piece
Olive oil 02 tbsp
Cumin Seeds 02 tsp
Green chili 02 (chopped)
Green coriander 01 tbsp (chopped)
water as needed
How to cook rice
- First of all, wash the Basmati rice thoroughly until its starch is removed. Now soak the rice in a large bowl on the surface of the water for about 20-25 minutes. After 25 minutes drain off the excess water and keep it aside.
- Put about 4-5 cups of water in a cooker and let it boil.
- When the water starts boiling add whole spices and salt as per taste. Do not make the lid, lower the flame and let the rice cook.
- Cook the rice till it becomes tender. Drain the excess water and keep the rice in a separate bowl.
- You can also strain the rice through a sieve and keep it at room temperature.
How to make jeera rice
- To make cumin rice, heat oil in a frying pan, add cumin seeds to it.
- When cumin seeds crackle, add green chilies and fry.
- Now pour this cooked tempering into the rice (cooked) and stir well.
- Mix the tempering well with the rice with the help of a spoon.
- Do not mix under too much pressure otherwise, the rice grains will break.
- Now your jeera rice is ready, serve it hot and garnish it with green coriander.
Cumin rice Serving Method
Serve cumin pulao hot with dal tadka, naan, or vegetables.

- Soaking Rice – As an exercise, soak the rice for at least 20- 35 minutes to make it tasty and tender.
- Add enough water to boil the rice, filter it later, and set it aside.
- Use a fork while mixing the rice grains, the spoon can break the rice grains.
